A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Warning, this book can change your life. It can change the way you see the world and yourself. It can wake you up.

I love that the author starts the introduction with basically saying you can take these ideas or leave them, and then by explaining that those already on the road to enlightenment will be more likely to get it.
He is apologetic about having a more Christian perspective, but his explanations are deeply Buddhist at times, Hindu, Tao and common sense at others. I found no bias in his writing and lots of connections between the major philosophies.

The definition of ego is astonishing and really helped me dig deeper into awareness. The pain body chapter is one of the most practical explanation on forgiveness I have read to date.

Everything about this book challenged my way of thinking and perceiving and moved me closer to being.

It is beautifully written and the concepts are well defined and illustrated, without the spoon feeding or vagueness I’ve sometimes encountered in books of this type.

Apparently, I was supposed to read The Power of Now first… as the author expresses through acceptance, things happen when they are supposed to. Embrace what is with you now.

Ps: I’m starting The Power of Now next.

Blessings and good reading!

  1. I love Eckhart Tolle – on of the great spiritual teachers of our time – perhaps of all time. His clarity and dedication is beyond normal discourse and his knowledge of philosophy, modern and ancient teachings is incredible. Along with several others, his awakening and inspiration is part of a real movement towards present moment awareness that is the polar opposite to the direction much of the world is heading. A true awakening of consciousness – indeed, the genisis of: A New Earth.

    1. Hello Andy,
thank you so much for your comment.
I have been reading such thought leaders for many years and I wasn’t ready to receive. Tolle was the first in a long stream over the last two years that hit a chord deep inside me. After reading The Power of Now, I finally understood the Buddhist concept of “the teacher will come when the student is ready.” I have an ever growing reading list of books on my shelf related to self-awareness in some form or other and I have stopped worrying about which to read next. In fact, I stopped looking at them and sometimes just close my eyes and pick one. Amazingly, it seems to always compliment what I read before it. Tolle guided me on this path and I am so grateful that I am living some of his teachings.
May I ask what are some of the other books you’ve read that you feel changed you?

      1. The most powerful and yet practical book for me has been The Presence Process by Michael Brown. It’s a 10 week journey into awareness using breathing sessions, reading the material and bringing to mind phrases that are set for each week such as ‘this moment matters’ – one for each week of the journey. It put into practice much of Tolle’s teachings plus more, and is a life changer if you are ready to hear it.

      2. Awesome! Thank you, Andy.
I just added it to my GoRead wish list. I’m looking forward to reading it.

ps: If you haven’t already heard of GoRead, it’s a community site for authors and thought leaders. For me, it’s been a great mutual mentoring community and I get paid for doing what I love: reading & writing, sharing, and connecting with others.
