Intended as a gift for someone who did some work for me. They had liked something similar I made sometime before and I thought they’d like this one too. Well, that’s a lesson in… well, I frankly don’t know. I didn’t have the guts to ask them why they didn’t like it. Perhaps the title is a little creepy for conservative sensitivities. oh, well. I had a ball making this one. It’s been in storage for a while now and I found it still has some magic for me. something reminiscent of old Vincent Price movie sets. I played with so many different underglazes and oxides, mixed in with glazes, that I really wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. This was another contaminated clay body, or so I assume, as the strange pooling of the glaze at the base was unintentional and reproduced over a few firings with this clay. Maybe this clay and the terracotta that had a similar effect interacted with each other. Happy mistakes and beautiful surprizes. That’s why I love working with clay so much. You can never be absolutely sure what will happen.
