“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” By Socrates

I’m on a rollercoaster ride. I keep repeating that I cannot change the past, but I might actually be feeling that I can or must. I’m putting energy in comparing the past to who my desired future could be and in the process I’m not at all living in the present. What does this have to do with building the future? Well, foundations! The past is all plans and plans change when reality and new information (understanding)  comes along. So we start the building anew each day. Each new level or stage of the building is a new foundation for the next. Each new foundation can only be built right now. I cannot change the past, but I can use it.

Wanting to change the past can feel like n to accepting it. Accept that it happened and act on this new understanding. Build from this new point, this new level. You will notice that Socrates doesn’t tell us to build for the future. He stops at the now.

Where is your focus?
