An introduction to my Teaching Philosophy
A student-centred, inquiry and exploration approach to learning drives my teaching methods. Creativity, community and innovation inspires my collaborations with students, colleagues, and our families. For the past few years I have been immersed in experiential education models, including: consulting a team on building a Reggio-Emilia school in Montreal; developing the curricula for a STEM/STEAM based maker’s lab in a community elementary school, and incorporating Forrest schooling and Indigenizing the classroom to build inclusive learning environments. With my specialization in art education, I nurture a Freirian practice of co-learning and creative UDL models, as a gateway to developing safer and more diversity-minded experiences for my students. I’ve also been loving the reflective practices of the IB-MYP programs, which fit into my own inquiry-based teaching approach.
Where I can contribute my focus on experiential learning to your innovative community of learners? For me, my students are my greatest teachers; I’m a co-learner in their a-ha moments. In me, you will get a creative, adaptable, passionate, student-centred educator and a curious mind who nurtures connections driven by the unique learning styles of his students.
