Please stick to art supply stock, not dollar store.
The colors are sturdier and don’t bleed as much under the Mod Podge or acrylic finishes. 
You can also use it as a papier maché, if you are quick in applying it and remember that too much rubbing will rip it. This is Tissue paper, folks, not newsprint.
If you are texturing your surface, the thinness lends itself to subtle tinting of the surface, but it really never gets as translucent as using an acrylic medium.
