Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project

The original prompt from my drawing teacher (as I understood it) was that we were to take some old illustration from a Wizard of Oz book and distort them: ie: draw a measurable grid over the photocopied image, then draw various grids with distorted dimensions and then use those new distortions as guidelines for distorting … Continue reading Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project

Building An Idea – Talk to the hand (Linked Dreams #4)

This one is closer to nightmare than humorous meme... somewhere in my unconscious are demons with eyes in the palms of their hands. The odd faces are now growing from the fingers and this too, I now realize, comes from one of the Nightmare on Elm Street films. I didn't have the right colours, but … Continue reading Building An Idea – Talk to the hand (Linked Dreams #4)

Building An Idea – The Gallery (Linked Dreams #3)

I feel that I might have admittedly been a little lazy with this one, but I is better than I hoped for. It reminds me of the screen saver I have on my laptop... framed images in my photo files, slowly scrolling across the screen and over one another in a random pattern. I could … Continue reading Building An Idea – The Gallery (Linked Dreams #3)

Building An Idea – Igor with banana and crow, visiting the art gallery (Linked Dreams #2)

Well, I think the title tells it all, don't you? The Igor character is quickly becoming my favourite and it just makes me laugh... perhaps it's the name Igor... In my name I hear the scene from Young Frankenstein where Igor reacts to how his name is pronounced by Dr. Frankenstein! I love that film!

Building An Idea – Linked Dreams #1

I really would love to read what you think the narrative is in this one. For me, it's just a collections of freaks, or possibly some new and unlikely group of superheroes, including the abstract cloud floating behind them.... that could be "The wind"... What do you see?

Building An Idea, Part 4 – Linked Dreams

The progression was to find a way to link up to five of the rapid sketches into a single drawing. The ones you see here are the first attempt at this linked drawing. The teacher has since elaborated and let us know that he is hoping for more than simply having several images on the … Continue reading Building An Idea, Part 4 – Linked Dreams

Building An Idea – Part 3 – Broken Telephone Drawings

Who knows what the broken telephone game is? You know, it's the one where a group of folks sit in a circle and one person whispers a word into the ear of the person on their left (or right, depending on the direction you choose to progress), then that person whispers what they think they … Continue reading Building An Idea – Part 3 – Broken Telephone Drawings

Building An Idea – Harbinger

I have to credit this on a long time fascination about the symbolism of the crow. Also, a recent reading of a fiction book that is written about human history from the perspective of the crows (KA by John Crowley). Ok, maybe the fact that I watch the TV show Vikings also contributes to it... … Continue reading Building An Idea – Harbinger

Building An Idea – Admonishing The Child

This is for the parents out there. How many times have you heard yourself repeat a saying from your parents? The one that comes to mind when looking at this odd drawing is "we look with our eyes, not our fingers". Well, what if you had eyes on your fingers? What would you say then? … Continue reading Building An Idea – Admonishing The Child

Building An Idea – The Marvelous Breadfish???

Google the marvellous bread fish and you will see they don't look anything like this cartoonish version of the lamprey eel. However, the song rings through my imagination when I look at this drawing. I'm not sure where I got it from, nor what I intended with this "imaginary thing", but, well, here you have … Continue reading Building An Idea – The Marvelous Breadfish???
