Why are we fascinated with gargoyles?
These monstrous creatures of stone,
Carved into grand cathedrals and structures,
Looking down into us, watching and waiting.
Their grotesque features and fierce expressions,
Capture our imagination and intrigue,
As we ponder the stories they might tell,
And the secrets they might keep.
In an unlikely discovery,
In a bargain store’s dusty corner,
I find a small gargoyle made of ersatz concrete,
A replica of those grandiose creatures.
Though it will not survive in the mildest elements,
Its power to mesmerize and capture our minds,
Remains intact, a symbol of our fascination,
With these mysterious creatures of the past.
As we hold it in our hands, its unlikely weight,
We wonder about the stories it might hold,
And the mysteries it may yet share,
About the gargoyles that watch over us still.
