Deep beneath the ground, in the belly of the city,

a cacophony of sound, a visual blur, a question.

Am I the spectator, caught in the midst.

People come and go, in their daily drudgery,

going through the motions, with their heads down low,

lost in their thoughts, lost in their phones,

In them I wonder, who is life passing by?

And I,

lost within the crowd,

a nameless face,

an anonymous figure,

caught up in this human inquiry.

And we,

in the entropy of our lives,

the question arises,

begging for an answer:

What is this constant hustle and bustle?

Is it all just a means to an end,

or is there something else, something profound,

a thought giving it purpose and meaning?

And in that moment of reflection,

I ruminate on my immediate purpose,

my own reason for being here, now.

Then, with renewed focus,

I step out of the station, and

choose to take on the world,

with no deeper sense of purpose or direction,

but with faith life will continue.
