I walk with purpose towards my destination,

my mind set on reaching the end of the road,

my feet carrying me forward,

my eyes fixed, mindless.

But as I stride near a glass wall,

my attention is suddenly diverted,

drawn to the reflections dancing on its surface,

enticing me to pause and contemplate.

And there, amidst the flickering images,

I catch a glimpse of my own reflection,

a glimmer of myself frozen in time,

a momentary lapse in my momentum.

And in that fleeting instant,

I wonder what my reflection is thinking,

as I pass it by on my journey,

if it sees the same purpose in my steps.

Or does it see a different path,

a divergent course that leads away,

from the one I’ve consciously chosen,

to a path of instinct and perhaps destiny.

Stopped, I stand there, lost in thought,

caught between two worlds and two choices,

a momentary pause on my journey,

to reflect on the reflection staring back at me.
