Oh, Montreal! My city, my muse,
Where art and sin both run amuse,
And on Saint-Laurent, there stands tall,
A mural that portrays them all.
The Seven Deadly Sins, oh what a sight,
Captured in colors, so bright,
Each vice, a face, a body whole,
Lust, greed, wrath, envy, gluttony, sloth, and pride, all in roll.
A masterpiece of form and hue,
That tells a tale, both old and new,
Of human frailties, and excess,
Of pleasures sought, and souls repressed.
The artist’s hand, a virtuoso’s stroke,
Breathed life into these sins bespoke,
And made them dance, and leap, and fly,
To catch the viewer’s wondering eye.
Oh, how they tempt, these sins seven,
To lead us down the path of heaven,
To make us lose our reason, our will,
To drown us in a sea of thrill.
But fear not, my fellow Montrealers,
For in this mural, lie the cures,
For every sin, a virtue born,
To shield us from their deadly scorn.
So let us look, and let us learn,
From this mural, so grand and stern,
And strive to live, with virtue true,
In this city, so dear, so new.
