in comes she
from a land of sun
with toes that curl
and skin that’s brown
the snow begins
its frozen dance
and she stands still
in a bewildered trance
her breath forms clouds
that linger and fade
she feels the cold
deep in her bones, afraid
she watches as snowflakes
twirl and spin
a thousand tiny miracles
falling from within
she feels the chill
but also wonder
at this new world
of snow and thunder
she bundles up
in scarves and coats
and ventures forth
to explore, take notes
she slips and slides
and falls down too
but gets back up
with a smile anew
she learns to skate
and make snowmen tall
to appreciate winter
and its frozen thrall
for even though
she misses the sun
she’s found a new joy
in the snow’s fun
and so she greets
each snowfall bright
with open arms
and a heart alight.
