Looking For Strange #4

Random lines, following the whims of my hands and inner eye, revealing shapes not seen or envisioned consciously... The paper is turned and turned to find any recognizable patterns. When found, colours are applied to achieve the pattern I think I see. Anything can happen. Hint, I look for what might be eyes and let … Continue reading Looking For Strange #4

Old Man Facing The Wind

I was in need of filling a little time and didn't feel like getting dirty with charcoals, so I sat on a bench not far from this older businessman. He was enjoying the breeze and sunshine on his face. Well, that's what I think he was doing and probably what it would have looked like, … Continue reading Old Man Facing The Wind

Mesmer, or some other freak who turned me into a chicken in Las Vegas

I think I just woke up, refreshed and not remembering a thing about being a chicken... I have no clue what deep dark corner of my mind pulls this nonsense into the light of day, but here it is. Say hello to the Kramer of hypnotists. Capable of doing great things, but somehow, just like … Continue reading Mesmer, or some other freak who turned me into a chicken in Las Vegas

Hellish Hair

Ok, this one may be more imitation than inspiration... well, I'm not sure. I was looking at charcoal drawings and saw someone make a portrait of some guy with messy hair. It followed closely after some stupid fashion ad on Instagram of people with "stylishly messy hair". Anywho... the drawing was done in a more … Continue reading Hellish Hair

Fierce Anger

I was scrolling over my Facebook feed, trying desperately not to feel like I was wasting time... I reeeeeealy was!!! I frankly have no idea what the protest was about, but I saw a familiar image of some guy yelling at another person and his face was full of righteous indignation... Feel free to interpret … Continue reading Fierce Anger

Strange Lighthouse

Porcelain clay, hand-built slabs, tapped, carved. Bisqued without stains. I dipped the whole thing in clear glaze, then painted the stonework with a matte finish black glaze. The small window in the door has a blue crackle glaze in it, and I wasn't entirely sure it wouldn't drip down the door during firing. it was … Continue reading Strange Lighthouse

The Altar of The Face

Intended as a gift for someone who did some work for me. They had liked something similar I made sometime before and I thought they'd like this one too. Well, that's a lesson in... well, I frankly don't know. I didn't have the guts to ask them why they didn't like it. Perhaps the title … Continue reading The Altar of The Face

Waterfall

Terracotta clay, slab-hand-built, carved, folded, and taped. Bisqued without any stains or engobes. Then I used a variation of oxides and celadon glazes. I had hoped they would drip down and they did. The carved base only had some thin coats of iron oxide stains, but that also changed in the firing. I'm pretty sure … Continue reading Waterfall

Striations “SOLD”

The intention was to give the feel of something that may have formed naturally following the eruption of a volcano. For this, I used very unusual materials to colour the inner and outer surface. This one of those pieces that no school would allow me to make in their classes. Thank goodness I had the … Continue reading Striations “SOLD”
