Well, it’s been leading up to this, hasn’t it? A few days ago, on Day 11 to be precise, I concluded that I want to tell stories. Not just any stories, but other people’s stories. Stories about the amazing things people do, even when they don’t realize they are amazing. More on this later… Can I do it? Sure, why not? Can I do it well? I don’t know, but I’m willing to try and I can always improve. Not a great confidence builder for whomever would be my first story. As it turns out, I have already told a few stories and I got some compliments on my writing too, only, I thought I was just writing testimonials for some clients. Yes, you heard right. I got into the practice of writing testimonials about my clients. It’s one of the many ways I thanked them for doing business with me.

It started a few years ago when I was running my own talent agency. I picked the actors I’d work with based on their attitude. When they had a nice resume, that was the bonus for me. When I got to see them play on stage or screen, that was icing on the cake. I would take all the passion they shared with me and weave it into a testimonial letter to post on social media and email to casting directors. That was one of the best parts of what I did as an agent. I may have been sharing all this love in the wrong industry, as most people in entertainment seem to be used to having their bread buttered and don’t always recognize genuine sincerity or authenticity. But that’s a rant for another day.

Back to the amazing people I want to write about. As a networker, I tend to meet lots of people, and those I am fortunate enough to have real conversations with, often amaze me. Maybe, I’m easily amazed, but I know exactly what amazes me the most. It’s people who express their passions and abilities perfectly clearly, but aren’t aware they said it so well. Well, in case I didn’t acknowledge it before, here’s proof that we all have some self-confidence challenges to work on. Recently, my testimonials were for the amazing business people who accepted to sponsor my magazine, Kirkland Neighbours. I told myself that I would select only the best businesses to contribute to my community magazine, and this would be my value added proposition to my readers. So I asked questions about passion, values, visions, and missions. While my questions changed from person to person, their purpose was always the same, to get an understanding of the person’s heart, because I know that is what I could talk about the best, if I wanted to be a great Brand Ambassador for them. They surprised me whit their reasons for working with me.

As the relationships grew, they told me why they supported me. It had to do with how I asked the questions and how they believed I was able to help them bring out the best in themselves and their businesses. I’m still not sure what this means, but it sounds great, so I’ll take it! Today, I met with a new client, who complimented me and thanked me for listening to her. She said I have a skill in relating to people and seem to always be looking for the good in people. Again, I’m grateful… I’ll take it! This client asked me to come and write content for their business website, letters, etc… I went there to ask some questions, and to ask if I could write her story. She told me she feels I have found my true purpose and that is in writing.

At some point, we simply have to look ourselves straight in the ass and decide to go in or get out… Sorry, I mean look ourselves in the mirror and decide to follow what gives us so much pleasure and what others seem to appreciate the most about us. I’m very much enjoying doing this blog! I am very much enjoying writing to express my thoughts and discoveries. It allows me to meet people, learn more about everything, and to express my love of language. I’ll let my readers be the judges of how good I am, and I choose to take all criticism constructively. I want to be a storyteller and I want to do it in writing.

    1. Hello Scarlett,
I’m happy to share what I did. I have to tell you, the process is part looking at hundreds of sites for what I liked best, then selecting the WordPress theme that was closest, then playing around until it fit my gut feeling for what I liked. Most of what I do is instinctual, and I’ve learned to trust that it is based on my need to do research prior to launching anything.
      Sorry, I’m rambling…
How would you like to proceed for an interview?
