“A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thought, so he loses touch with reality and lives in a world of illusions.” By Alan Watts

Hmmmm… right! I need to read, watch, listen, experience new things all the time to keep up my energy. Spending too much time in my head has lately been a great emotional drain. My procrastination habits are full of the elaborate lies I tell myself, then justify with lengthy inner debates. Having nothing new to consider, I will dig into my past only and might miss some amazing aha moment. Ok, I’m already going into my thoughts too much to write this one. Let’s just say, it feel right.

What does this quote mean to you?

  1. I really needed to read this quote, because I’m always overthinking! Lol. When I read these words, I think about how we can be our own worst critics at times. We can sit and ponder on a negative thought for hours, even days, until we lose sight of the positive realities around us. But I also think that this quote can talk about being caught up in our own egos, too. We lose sight of the truth when we live in a world of fantasy about who we are. So it’s all about balance – Knowing when to bond with our own thoughts and when to give them a break. 🙂

      1. Thank you! I totally agree. What you said makes me think of something I read in a book about dealing with social anxiety and overthinking. Sometimes we just have to tell our minds “Stop!” when we find ourselves overthinking on a negative thought. We can acknowledge it’s there, but we don’t have to dwell on it.
