In case I didn’t state it in my last post on this new painting, I’m still thinking g of making this mostly monochromatic… mostly meaning it will be deeply layered overweigh greys and whites… we shall see if I change my mind, but for now, I started as I intended … with some undercoats of colour.
Side note on working with paint that I. haven’t touched in a long time… it’s thick and dry-ish… I mixed in some water and got an unexpected watercolour feel to the application. BONUS for me!
I’m using a medium-sized watercolour brush the pigment seems to be holding nicely on the gesso… there are some drips and bubbles, which add satisfying textures. The elephants are starting grey and the water turquoise… the charcoal under-drawing is both holding and helping some shadows.
Previous. step…

Stay tuned for more to come…
