A few weeks ago, I got in to my head that I needed to draw on the reclaimed music books I got at the thrift store. The sheets were of nice quality paper, a little yellowed, but still nice. The antique quality and the complex arrangements of the notes intrigued me. I just wasn't sure … Continue reading Building An Idea – Waiting to Start – msb
Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #4
Again, we find some Steampunk influences in this one and I feel I'm getting closer to what I want to play with. There's a bit of Tim Burton's Mayor (Nightmare Before Christmas) character and I wonder if this guy is some sort of combination of Tin Man and Scarecrow. The moustache does lend a voice … Continue reading Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #4
Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #3
Ok, so every character from this illustrator's versions of this book seem to suffering from an excess of gravity. It is deeply amusing. Moreover, the possibility that this non-traditional Tin Man also suffers from the gluttony usually attributed to the lion is very funny to me. I beefed up the affect (pun intended) by further … Continue reading Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #3
Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #2
Now we find ourselves diving into the Steampunk stylings I'm so fascinated by. I also realize this Tin Man has a little of the feel I get from the Samurai Jack robots: It must be the cowboy boots! Hmmm... my mind is wandering and went to wondering what inspired the Droid K-2SO in Rogue One … Continue reading Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #2
Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #1
These are the only two characters from the stack of photocopied images the teacher gave us that really tickled my fancy. There was another one of the Scarecrow that looked a little like a rag doll, but another student grabbed it. There was also one of an old crone sewing the scarecrow together that I … Continue reading Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project #1
Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project
The original prompt from my drawing teacher (as I understood it) was that we were to take some old illustration from a Wizard of Oz book and distort them: ie: draw a measurable grid over the photocopied image, then draw various grids with distorted dimensions and then use those new distortions as guidelines for distorting … Continue reading Building An Idea – Distorted Ozs Project
Building An Idea – Talk to the hand (Linked Dreams #4)
This one is closer to nightmare than humorous meme... somewhere in my unconscious are demons with eyes in the palms of their hands. The odd faces are now growing from the fingers and this too, I now realize, comes from one of the Nightmare on Elm Street films. I didn't have the right colours, but … Continue reading Building An Idea – Talk to the hand (Linked Dreams #4)
Building An Idea – The Gallery (Linked Dreams #3)
I feel that I might have admittedly been a little lazy with this one, but I is better than I hoped for. It reminds me of the screen saver I have on my laptop... framed images in my photo files, slowly scrolling across the screen and over one another in a random pattern. I could … Continue reading Building An Idea – The Gallery (Linked Dreams #3)
Building An Idea – Igor with banana and crow, visiting the art gallery (Linked Dreams #2)
Well, I think the title tells it all, don't you? The Igor character is quickly becoming my favourite and it just makes me laugh... perhaps it's the name Igor... In my name I hear the scene from Young Frankenstein where Igor reacts to how his name is pronounced by Dr. Frankenstein! I love that film!
Building An Idea – Linked Dreams #1
I really would love to read what you think the narrative is in this one. For me, it's just a collections of freaks, or possibly some new and unlikely group of superheroes, including the abstract cloud floating behind them.... that could be "The wind"... What do you see?
