The cards turned up another doodle and I just went blank... until I put marker to paper. Well, even then. So, I just scribbled... honestly, I don't think I really ever doodle like this. I have made paintings like this and right away disliked them. I'm not sure why I kept this one in my … Continue reading Building An Idea – A Doodle By Any Other name…
Building An Idea – Hey! Hey! Over Here!
WARNING: Attention Seeking Behaviour ahead!!! What is an artists, if not someone begging for attention? Of course there's much more to it than that! There are our by-polar personality traits: Antisocial and exhibitionistic; focused and disorganized; self-indulgent and people pleaser... Well, you get the idea... We're complicated! I'm not sure what corner of my psyche … Continue reading Building An Idea – Hey! Hey! Over Here!
Building An Idea – Leafy Thing
Started as a doodle, whatever a doodle is, turned into a leafy thing, then it needed a pot. Last semester, I played a little with opposing curves to add body and direction to form. I let this one flow randomly and it grew without much guidance or intention.
Building An Idea – Innocent Advertising???
I'm fascinated and amused by the advertisements of the 1940's to 1960's. There's always a tension between innocence and the desire to corrupt. I mean, what little kid wouldn't think a smiling cigarette just wants to be their friend?

Because these are rapid (almost spontaneous) drawings, I am not sure how much I will have to say about each. At this … Continue reading Building An Idea – Part 2
Building An Idea – Part 1
At the end of last semester, the drawing teacher gave us some homework. I frankly didn't understand what he intended to do and he said he did that on purpose. The task was to do 4 or 5 rapid drawings every day of the Xmas break in order to have between 40 and 60 to … Continue reading Building An Idea – Part 1
People of Some Distinction – A New Series
Born from paintings I saw on a trip to the Dominican Republic (eons ago) and a desire to evolve my People of the land series, I created this new series. I have to be honest, it's been sitting in the current state in my storage room for over a year and I finally pulled it … Continue reading People of Some Distinction – A New Series
Secret Memory Box #1 – The Box Project – Glazed
It started with a pinch-pot; the bottom was tapped into a foot shape then scored for texture; when leather-hard, the lid was carved out and the handle attached and textured; after a little more drying, it was burnished; dried to bone dry and bisqued; the lid was stained with iron oxide, the sides doted with … Continue reading Secret Memory Box #1 – The Box Project – Glazed
