Working in the Reggio Way: A Beginner’s Guide for American Teachers
This should be a must read part of any teacher training course. It should also be part of management training courses at the MBA level. There is a great deal to be learned about problem solving and true collaboration from the way these awesome schools are set up. There’s no reason similar curricula couldn’t be used in the training of managers.
It gives a great introduction to the Reggio Emilia philosophy. It goes much deeper as it explains where this method came from, what educational theories it’s built on, and why this is the predominant method being used in Europe and growing throughout the world.
It gives a better understanding of emergent curriculums, flipping classrooms, and cooperative learning, all while drawing a clear definition of what a child-centered system really is… hint: it’s child directed and communication oriented.
The distinctions between this and Montessori are as simple as how Reggio uses social interactions as a critical part of growing its activities.
I love this method and this book!
Good luck and good reading.
