The sadness is mostly in the eyes for this guy, and maybe I took the easy road to connecting the feeling of his being philosophical, because of the beard. The funny thing is that the image that inspired this one was most definitely not Sophocles. Regardless of the source material, something inside me was coming out in this drawing. I guess it’s more of the down feelings around and within me these days. Good news is it comes and goes very quickly. Especially when I’m drawing and listening to what the drawings tell me.
This one is also all conte, applied in multiple layers, separated by blending. The more I look for the unconscious influences in my style the more I realize I may have watched way too much of The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. This seems to be the style that the artwork always had on the Peabody & Sherman segments.
