I am uncertain where I found the original photo for this portrait, but I’m sure the original photo didn’t look like a close-up of the Dutch or flemish school painting. Perhaps the style or brushstroke indicative of these schools is all over the fingerprints of the Expressionist style I love so much.

What ism or artist style do you see in this portrait?

Other than styles, her expression denotes determination, a certain resignation to having to do whatever job she does and a defiance to be judged for doing it. There’s also a sadness, but I don’t think it’s sadness about her situation. It’s more a sadness about others who don’t realize she isn’t poor in spirit; she is actually very strong with resolve to survive and thrive.
