See T’Hed Seven for previous progressions…
Staring at some slate grey drawing paper I was sure I’d like to use the charcoals again, but I needed something different… some other texture to play with. I decided on gouache.
I started with painting in the gouache background… unblended and straight pigments. I really love how this watercolour medium boils with movement and texture as it dries. it is always a pleasant surprise how it will end up.

I then added the black charcoal outlines and scribbles. Followed by some yellow charcoal. I decided to not use the blending stick. I used an acre charcoal for the lips and white conte for some teeth.
It still feels a little unfinished, but I have a plan for the next one…. blending the paint on the paper.
Stay tuned…
