The next batch of T’heds are mostly about colour explorations with the crayons. I’m letting my gut drive the compositions and my hands dictate how to use the crayons.

Truth be told, it’s been a few weeks since my last drawing and I’m really having to dig deep for energy to do them. As many of you know, I’ve been teaching high school arts this past year and the learning curve with my 350+ students is… well, draining! This isn’t an complaint, it’s just the realization that I need to carve out time and space for my own creative pursuits; not just give it all to my students.

So, back to this one… I’m still using the 8″ x 8″ card stock and the mix of old crayons. The paler ones (from the Dollar store) are inferior to the Crayola crayons for sure. However, they are excellent for skin tones… the lesser intensity (values) of pigments allow me to develop texture and blending effects that the thicker pigment Crayolas don’t. Hey, this is all about material explorations, right?

At this point, I’m not sure how much insight I have on these next 5 drawings, but that could be due to my mind being torn in various directions, including my students’ work. We will work through it together, Ok?

Stay tuned…
