“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” By Rumi

I’m sure there’s more to this quote, but I chose not to look for it. I feel the rest would be telling us to surpass our barriers. I say surpass and not destroy, because there is a great deal we can learn from our barriers, especially when they appear as fear or worry. Fear and worry occur when we are focused on future outcomes, instead of being in the moment. Love is a feeling we have now. It fills us completely. Nor is it the same as nostalgic longing for something in our past, but that’s a different topic for another time.

Like all barriers we encounter on our progress journeys, acknowledge it, then understand it, if you must, but don’t overthink it. Tell yourself: “it’s just a bump, I’m going over it to continue forward.” Then let it be or let it go; just keep moving forward. Ok, so please understand that I’m talking about a lot more than love here. Love is the feeling you want to focus on while on your growth journey. What I’m talking about here is your passion, purpose, learning, growth, and success. In this quote, replace “love” with any one of these words and you will feel what I’m saying. Now add “and then overcome them” to the end of your new quote.

“Your task is not to seek for your purpose, but merely to seek for all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it, and then overcome them.”

How does that feel for a mantra?
