“It’s funny how we outgrow what we once couldn’t live without, and then we fall in love with what we didn’t even know we wanted. Life keeps leading us on journeys we would never go on if it were up to us. Don’t be afraid. Have faith. Find the lessons. Trust the journey.” From tinybuddha.com
Well, this just makes sense to me and I wasn’t even aware that I often live by this with every new thing I dive into to try. Take the simple example of food. I have always told people that as long as I’m not allergic to it, I’ll try it. Twenty years ago, I lived and worked in Spain and there were loads of new things that I had never tried or could imagine I would try. I started telling people, let me try it first, then if I like it, tell me what it is. That was a great decision then and I still benefit from the practice and get to eat tons of delicious foods.
There was a time when I was sure I couldn’t live without cable TV, a land line phone, McDonald’s, soft drinks, milk, meat, and candy. I keep discovering new ways of living a healthy and happy lifestyle for me and simply have lost interest in these old wants. There was a time I couldn’t talk in public, write more than a hundred words in a row, or draw. These are all part of my daily life now and open doors to new journeys all the time. I do sometimes still get afraid of the unknown, but the soothing voice of trust and faith grows. I believe it is part of accepting that I have an insatiable curiosity to look for life lessons and a powerful creativity that allows me to learn from them. And, when I doubt, my inner voice joyfully repeats very clearly: “Trust the journey.”
