“It is not necessary to react to everything you notice.” From An Iota of Truth
Well, I think I started learning this one the hard way. A few people very close to me started telling me that I criticized everything they did. I stopped doing it gradually with these people, and I lost a few of them along the way because of the bad habit. This was in recent years, but when I thought back about it, I realized how negative and overdramatic I used to be about pretty much everything. All to get attention. It always backfired in the long run.
In recent years, I’ve been more and more of the mind of shutting out the noise that used to boil my blood. I’m still uncomfortable saying I don’t care about stuff, when I’m asked about it, but I much more seldom give emotional responses. Also, I have far fewer people in my life who I want to impress at all. So I don’t need the attention. In a nutshell, it is easier to only react to things that excite and inspire my curiosity. Next step, stop reacting to people who just don’t get as excited as I do about stuff!
