“All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence.”  By Eckhart Tolle

Wow! All these feelings are icky! List their opposites: ease, peace, relaxation, peace of mind, confidence, innocence, satisfaction, contentment, commendations, happiness, sweetness, and forgiveness. These all give pretty great feelings! Now the part that requires a little honest reflection to become aware that you feel these good feelings in the NOW only.

Not convinced? Ok, try this… Which of these statement make you feel the best?

  1. I was happy.
  2. I am happy.
  3. I will be happy later.

I’ll bet it’s “B”, isn’t it? That’s because what we experience NOW always has the strongest feelings. The Power of Now is filled with frustrating awesome examples of why NOW. Is the best place to find happiness and how the strongest emotions in the moment have power to change your world. He doesn’t talk about the law of attraction directly, but he does present a great argument against the past and future, and for the present. Try this same experiment with all the listed words, both positive and negative and see which gives the strongest feelings. If you want to take it a step further, think about a moment when you felt those feelings and place them in time. Where are the best feelings and where are the worst ones? Memories are tricky, because you may have great ones. Do you feel nostalgic for those memories? I would like to believe we can feel gratitude for past experiences, but we also miss them a little, and perhaps whatever is happening to you right now is more pressing.

How do you feel right now and why?
