Winter’s Tree

R-Winter's Tree

Musings of the Artists Mind

I got inspired by my painting titled: “Sawsan’s Trees” and wanted to give her a lighter scene. This highly textured piece gives me the impression of a cool, crisp Spring day, before the snow melts. We can feel the rain in the air, but the sky is still filled with the whiteness of winter snow. There’s great peace and solitude here and a sense that the long winter is almost past and warmer weather is soon coming.

The pallet is brighter and lighter, with highlights indicating the coming of Spring.

I’m not sure it would have the same lightness, had I chosen to compose the full tree or do it on a wider canvas.

If I were to give a decor suggestion, it looks great against a darker wall.

What inspires an artist?

“All they see” is the first and most literal answer.

For me, that is literally hundreds of gallery & museum exhibits, thousands of books, and tens of thousands of images online.

When asked where to start a book collections, I almost always recommend these art bibles: Janson’s “History of ArtOR Phaidon’s “The Art BookBoth give a nice overview with good pictures. Once you’ve discovered what you are attracted to there most, you can then dig deeper into that area.

If you have the time, you are free to visit my GoodReads library to see a fraction of the books I’ve read. These are the ones I remember, that is. Or you can visit the ever growing collection on my Pinterest account.
