“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.” By Friedrich Nietzche

I had to really breath this one in. I think it’s about risk taking and following your heart. Over the last several years, I have been on a journey to understand myself better and find my true purpose. This is not a journey that is easily taken when you are always asking others for their opinions. In fact, doing that makes it nearly impossible to hear your own voice and your true heart. If you choose to find yourself, you can only look with your own eyes. The only person anyone else will find is their image of you; only you will ever now the authentic you.

If you are afraid of being lonely, this is not a journey for you to be on right now. Furthermore, and this is my experience talking, so others may feel differently, once you start on this journey; there is no turning back. You cannot put the knowledge-genie back in the bottle.

However, when you start, please, please, please find every way, every mantra, every reminder you can that brings you back to you. Contemplate your feelings and recognize where they come from. That will help separate yours from others. Consider you thoughts and what inspired them. That too will help separate yours from others.

Trust yourself, both when you have discovered something new about yourself, and when you are feeling lost in uncertainty. Both these are momentary situations, so be careful who and when you share them with others. Remember, regardless of the good intensions of others, they can only see the world from the perspective created by their life experience. No two people in human history have ever shared exactly the same perceptions. So, focus on your own, as that is the only path to yourself.

Each of us is a complex construct of external influences and personal experiences. It is what makes us all individuals and still allows us to live in a society. However, your gifts will always be unique and can only fully benefit society if you share their uniqueness. Because, only you have them to offer. So, don’t concern yourself with being like everyone else. Your unique selling point is you. Be you.

Where are you truly yourself?
