Originally a meant to be a study of this odd model posing in drawing class, and yes, he was wearing smudged makeup. There was something very familiar in the face. At first, I thought it was an old friend from school, then slowly something else emerged. Perhaps it was the fact that our teacher likes to play some, well eclectic music choices in class, and Marilyn Manson was playing.
The gestural drawing started to develop a narrative of its own. I pictured an older version of the rockstar standing in the maternity ward, just outside the window where they (factitiously) keep newborns for visitors to see. He is uncharacteristically overcome with the cuteness of his grandchild and a strange expression of love, that only Marilyn Mansson could show becomes apparent on his face.
This is drawn with a charcoal stick and a little ochre chalk.
