I reclaimed an old wooden ladder from a neighbour’s trash and had lofty plans to convert it into some shabby-chic treasure. It sat outside baking in the sun last summer and under the snow all this past winter. Amazingly, most of the paint and dirt remained on it through all that. I gave it a quick powerwash and left it to dry in the sun again. The day I was obsessively running around taking close-ups of everything I could find, I got really close to the ladder and caught this when a fluffy white cloud dimmed the sun. There’s a white brick wall behind it and I tweaked the contrast a little to emphasize the wonderful colours on the wood. It seems to me that this ladder had been well used and the pastel colours might indicate most of its usage was back in the 1980s. I still haven’t decided what to do with it. Time will tell or completely reclaim it.
