To be honest, I’ve been staring at the model and the canvas for days now. I wasn’t sure what to do. I guess I just needed to build up my confidence. I visualized all sorts of methods and possibilities. I told myself to just let go, dive in, and see what happens.

As soon as that first knife-full of brown paint touched the canvas, it felt like my hands already knew what to do. I built up and added more and more paint. The long face was easier, and I had plenty of time to go back and add more to the tall brown figure, because it was slow to dry.

I initially wasn’t sure how to build up the sculptural aspects of my model and then it hit me… sculpture! I could sculpt with my extra thick acrylic paint. Now the whole thing was coming into view for me. I only have to slow down because it needs to dry a little.

Stay tuned for the next steps…
