Using a handmade marking brush: The handle is made from a lilac tree branch, jute twine, and red embroidery thread. The brush is the foil isolation taken from the inside of an electrical extension cord. I carefully unwrapped the foil from the wires and cut them. Again I wasn’t sure how the foil would hold the India ink, and it didn’t hold much. The magic was in the flimsiness of the brush hairs (or foils in this case). Once I realized they were holding the ink like a calligraphy nib, I could twist play with the dips and drops, as well as pull different lines. When I was done, I saw runners that seem to be as weightless as the brush-hairs but using their weightlessness wisely by running with the wind.
