See more of Montreal Walls

Another quiet back alley on Le Plateau Mont-Royale with nature growing in any crack it can find, except on this sunlight space. Was it cleared by the homeowner? Why? Perhaps cleared to allow some children room to play with chalk on the wall. regardless, it opens the conversation of the purpose of these obviously long unopened doors which are so beautifully built to fit perfectly in the brick walls. I’d like to imagine they were once entryways to secret fruit & vegetable gardens, open to all the neighbours when these neighbourhoods were more of a community. Maybe they were old workshops when tradespeople bartered their skills with each other as needed. Whatever their purpose, I’m glad their beauty can still be seen.

More to come…
