Like the terrifying angler fish one can see on those great nature shows, this guy probably lurks around the water… only near the surface, instead of in the depths. The idea of such a toothy horror floating just below the surface embodies my irrational fears of swimming in open waters. I could blame that fear on watching Jaws at much too young an age, but the ruth may be more instinctual. f I allow my logic to consider this unlikely creature, it tells me that it is built in such a way that it probably doesn’t bite anything; it waits for something to swim into it’s mouth and traps it with the curved barbs of its teeth. This is only slightly less frightening.
