Musings of the Artists Mind

These are tiny flowers. The closer I got to them the more it felt like they were made of paper. While processing the photo, I started to see them jump from the page, as if glued to its surface. It felt like a collage. A kids collage lovingly put away for safekeeping in a drawer after they brought it home from elementary school arts & crafts. Found so many years later and giving you the feelings of as much love as the day it was first given to you with a smiling: “I love You, Mom/Dad”. Amazingly, the excessive glue and small rips and folds only seem to add preciousness to the image.

What inspires an artist?

“All they see” is the first and most literal answer.

For me, that is literally hundreds of gallery & museum exhibits, thousands of books, and tens of thousands of images online.

Books that Inspired and Influenced my Experimentation:

Here we have to give homage to my kings of imagery. While I cannot claim to compare myself to them, they continue to inspire my view of the world.

Ansel Adams for extending the imagination though light and shadow.

Georgia O’Keefe for painting macros and driving the eye into incredible landscapes.

Andrew Wyeth for adding a dusting of serenity to all he painted and giving a craving for tea whenever I see his work.

Pablo Picasso for always coming to the purity of the image by often outrageous routes.

These are perhaps the most accessible influences, but the truth is that my influences run deep through thousands of books and works I’ve seen & read. If you have the time, you are free to visit my GoodReads library to see a fraction of the books I’ve read. These are the ones I remember, that is. Or you can visit the ever growing collection on my Pinterest account & My ViewBug site, and at Arts M.Perron.

  1. Hi M! I never saw this! Thank you so much! Sorry you couldn’t find my gallery. I must post my art on my welcome and bio page. Have another look. See if you can find it. Just type My Sooper Dooper Art Gallery into Google. You never know!

    1. Hi Jo, thank you for the compliment. I went to your site on my phone and read your bio, or I think it’s your bio. It’s inspiring and witty!
For whatever reason it’s not easy to navigate on my phone and I couldn’t find any of your visual work. I’ll have a go at it again on my computer.
Thank you for sharing it with me.
