I finished another sketchbook a few days ago and felt this was the right time to try something new. Well, not exactly new to me, but something I haven’t played with for quite some time. I’ve been wanting to draw again with charcoal, but the eczema on my fingers has been pretty bad for a little while now, so this kind of dust on my skin isn’t helpful. I figured I could either wear rubber gloves (which I didn’t this time, because I got to excited to draw and forgot them on a shelf), or I could use a rubbing pencil (it’s that tightly rolled paper that looks like a headless pencil, usually sharpened at both ends). I used the pencil, and still got my fingers dirty, but it was worth it. I had fun doing this next batch of drawings and the pleasure I felt seems to have shone through in this face.
