The skywalk is part of the Five Roses silo complex, and the stone building on the right-front side of the picture was once Montreal’s water pumping station. It is now the residence of Les Forges de Montreal. A non-profit metalsmith school. It’s part of a return to valuing hand-crafted objects that seems to be popping up all over Montreal.

On my visit, the guide explained the history of this site and the history of crafts and iron work in Montreal. I was struck by the way we are able to combine the old with the new in all we do here. I chose to give this image a sepia tone at first, then realized that the humidity that is often in our air adds it’s own blueish tint. So, I gave it this look; a modern tint over an aged sepia.
