When I’m driving home late at night, I usually listen to the same DJ on the CBC. Odario Williams, with his deep radio voice and soulful statements about the dark, smoky, and soulful music he plays. It always conjures up the image of the Midnight DJ, alone in his radio station, far away from everything, broadcasting uplifting and seductive tunes to the lonely and artistic. I always feel the need to sip a fine whiskey and pull out my brushes to paint or my laptop to write, and then dive in for some creative, buzz-filled hours of liminal bliss.
The devil imagery has less to do with Odario, then some ingrained belief that the best late-night DJs are all a little… Evil.
