In discussion with my professor and tech. assistant, it is still unclear to me what colours I will use.
They came up with some good questions for me about how I connect the hearts and love to the bamboo. In my head, the hearts and “LO” & “VE” are pop art icons (See previous post on this topic). The bamboo is a contrasting factor; placing organic images within more graphic ones. It’s also a nod to the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic I’m madly in love with.
I think I’ll make it even more organic by choosing off-white fabrics: linen, wool, canvas… I’ll also try to make it on something very sheer for a lamp shade.
Once my sheets of fabric have been printed, I’ll be using them to recover a colonial style seat, a dentists apothecary cabinet (circa 1940), and the shade of a mid-century modern style floor lamp.
The they asked me the BIG question… IF THE VIEWER DOESN’T KNOW ME PERSONALLY, HOW DO THESE SYMBOLS AND PATTERNS RELATE TO THEM? WHAT DO THEY SAY?
You see, I’ve been making these item for my own pleasure without even realizing it. I didn’t really take my audience into consideration in regards to how clearly I’ve been talking to them. I’ve also been in this for the pleasure of exploring new materials and methods. Sadly, that is not what is required in school.
