Can you imagine that these are actually bright red flowers? I was really enjoying the angle of this shot and how I felt a tension between the stalk holding the flower and the seemingly escaping movements of the blossoms themselves. As usual, I saw this in my head, not in my eye, so I wasn’t sure what to do, because the bright red was distracting me from my vision. I decided to remove the pigments during editing and play with the focus… it came out as something cinematic from the silver screen era. Especially the seemingly superfluous mood shot James Whale often included in his monster movies to emphasize the quiet before the storm. In that briefest of seconds, we always know something terrible is about to happen. We see it mirrored here as you allow your eye to float down from the surreal crispness into the fade.
