I’ve taken a summer job that allows me to have some extended breaks in the day. While not ideal for me, as I like to get stuff finished before starting something new, I’m learning to adapt. I’ve decided to challenge myself to paint some things during my breaks. I

have a new watercolour set that I’ve been wanting to try out, so I dove in and did this during lunch break. I still find watercolours weird and challenging, even though I can see how to manipulate the material to achieve what I want. I have to disconnect what I know from acrylics and oils to make this work. This is often more a process of removal, instead of addition.

I started with my ink brush-pen then filled in the colours… added some tonality and started to remove to achieve some textures. I think I will continue playing with this. It’s also a challenge to reduce the size of my canvas… I love working large!
