I had one goal and I feel I achieved it… to express the purest childlike joy of the concept: elephant. Let me tell you it isn’t as easy as you might think to let go completely and try to see the world as a child might, then to use all the skills you have to subtly render that vision… it’s a dance between intellect (knowledge) and emotion (true play). I’ve taught grade one students to deliver such drawings, by not overwhelming them with technical details and encouraging them to embrace expressing what makes them happy… for my older students this translates to not being concerned with perfection and letting mistakes free them to make truly unique works of art. I’ve explained this in many of my other works as embracing the pleasure of just being silly…
Wouldn’t you love to see this anatomically-unlikely elephant roaming around an orange jungle?
More to come…
