I’m not sure if someone was trying to make a nest under the snow; if this was a nest for the tiny field mice we see nibbling the backed scraps we throw out for the squirrels, or if this was a bundle prepared by one of the many industrious birds we see in our yard. I found this neatly arranged bundle under a plastic sheet while tidying up my yard. It didn’t look like the wind made this configuration and the subtle beauty of the leaf colours around it made me imagine the tiny interior decorator had some intended design in mind. This feels like the definition of Wabi-Sabi to me. I love this aesthetic!
