For the first time in many, many years, I finally took a weekend off and went out of town for a little RnR. At night we lit a small fire in a cast-iron fireplace and watched it burn as we mused upon what caused so many colours and shapes to appear in the flames. The consensus was that fire is a living element and then a moment of deep silence at this realization fell upon us. I can’t say what the others felt or saw, but we all had a connection to the spirit of our fire. I had to grab the shot before the feeling left me and I could have sworn that the fire winked at me, as if telling me I was right… a spirit lived in those flames. I felt comfort and gratitude for seeing it and acknowledging it.
