I seem to always get stopped in my tracks by exposed roots. These very old cedar roots are a perfect example. I see the inspiration for many fantasy landscapes and cityscapes, hiding places for monsters and inconspicuous doorways into the Faerie realms. Blur the focus, change the contrast, remove the colour and the whole scene becomes an art history lesson of photography, lighting, and cinematic magic. Mother Nature made this and I am the humble and grateful artist inspired by her gifts. I keep saying I’ll eventually paint these wonders, but I know I won’t, at least not consciously. All I see becomes fuel for the grist of my imagination. I wonder what painting, weaving, tapestry, and/or sculpture this will show hints of influence in.
